I’m so glad that we could share a belated Christmas Vacation together last week. I thought we were going celebrate a pretend New Year’s Eve together as well last week, but then I got the pretend flu (honestly, what WAS that?!). This whole pretend thing is pretending not to work out! I’ll pretend this doesn’t phase me.
If today is New Year’s Eve (instead of January 14th). Tomorrow(ish) is January First, 2013. Before we can look forward to 2013 we must look back.
Hello back there, 2012, you tough little nut…
In January I built a barn wood head board in our basement guest room and then said good-bye to my loving family and moved down there myself. (Not.) After that Charlie peed in my hands and I failed so hard at making my own chalk paint that I decided to decorate for Valentine’s day for my first time ever as therapy. It was romantic.
In February I hit my goal weight in Weight Watchers with the help of a little cheating and obviously didn’t really learn much at all in the whole process, because that goal weight was left in the dust when the stress of our non-move hit later in the year. I also fake-triumphed over my barstools, painting them fire engine red and upholstering them with a laminated, wipe-able fabric. February put me on my first train ride wherein I travelled to Connecticut to hang out with Roo and serve as emotional support when a cat broke into her house and stole all the innocence in life.
March was awesome. I cleaned my house, ran with friends, dreamed some dreams, then confessed my love for women. I also made silly faces atcha.
April, April… Man, I was emotional in April! I cried in the bathroom over lost babies, cried in my car over a gone husband, and whined about annoying party favors. All this whilst putting my kids to work with a new chore chart, breaking out the motorcycles, and fixing up my long hair. BUT ALSO- I changed blog names, addresses, and designs in April! Oh how I love this blog home. I’ve missed it, and you, lately.
May was a letter-writing month (I did a “Dear Mom” series). It was also a “Get-a-Hole-drilled-into-your-Hand-and-Scream-Bloody-Murder-out-of-Pure-Fear-while-the-Kids-Claim-Torture” Month. After all was said and partially healed, The Manchild and I took History’s shortest trip to NYC (our first) and LOVED IT!
In June I wrote a professional and important note to Volkswagen to which they never responded. But when I interviewed Sarah from Thrifty Decor Chick in preparation for Haven Conference the whole crafty blog world responded. I rewarded them all with the weirdest business cards I could think of. That darn Haven Conference was way too fun. I’m going again in 2013! But I won’t forget you and I love you always and never die.
July was full of this: creating an awesome desk area at which I am currently sitting, nagging on bloggers about their blog buttons (who cares? me, I guess!), breaking up with Justin Bieber, and watching my blog eat my life.
It seems that there may have been some truth to the blog-eats-life joke, because in August I fought back. I blogged a bit less and spent TONS of hours making over my girls’ room. I anointed myself a mediocre electrician and a nut-job and left a mound of half-done projects by the wayside on my journey to finish the girls’ FREAKING AWESOME room.
Enter September. Three total posts. I think the summer had done me in. In September I barely sat at my new desk. I worked outside, cleaned the house, moved a bunch of furniture around and… I don’t remember what else I did because I didn’t blog it. If I didn’t blog it, it didn’t happen?
By that logic, October didn’t exist and in November I told you that we were moving to Boston (which explained the reason I hadn’t blogged.) We had a stressful, fall season, ya’ll!
Hello, December! Hello, NOT MOVING TO BOSTON AFTERALL! More stress, changes, keeping the house, staying here– basically I would call December “distressed yet sparkly.”
I’m barely aware of January and the month is half gone, but I feel so much renewed energy and enthusiasm for life today. I’m organizing like a fiend and trying to live life fully. That sounds trite, but it’s true.
I look forward to being with you more consistently now that I feel like we are settling back into our regular lives. I am grateful for you listening and laughing with me as I am “home-making one mess at a time” literally. :-) You guys bring me so much joy and my heart is full looking out into 2013. See you in a couple days, cuties!
P.S. Yes… yes, I did tweak an E-card I found online and put it on the bulletin board at church yesterday to help me announce an upcoming activity. We can expect more of this nonsense in 2013, I’m perdy sure. :-)
