Just kidding about the “Homemaking Tip of the Day”… I just thought that we should pretend to talk about Homemaking here sometimes.
I think that blogging is a lot like homemaking for me. Sometimes I stop doing it, because it’s hard to do it perfectly and well and repeatedly. I lose my mojo. I am super good and losing mojo. But after a while, things get ugly and as a wife, mother, and homemaker, I have to kick myself in the butt and just start again. A well-run home makes life better. For Angie, a non-dead blog makes life better.
FlyLady says that housework done imperfectly still blesses the family.
Blogging done imperfectly still blesses peeps. Which peeps???
Blogging blesses me because it sorts my thoughts. It pushes my creativity. It reminds me of a few things I forget that I am good at. It brings really, really great people into my life.
Blogging blesses my family because when I am happy, feel accomplished, feel “heard”, am motivated, and am having fun… so is everybody else.
Blogging blesses our extended family because Grandma and Grandpa love to read what’s going on here in D.C. Even if all I write about some days is Diet Coke addictions and muffin-top annihilation. (I pretend that they don’t mind reading those weird posts so that I can still allow myself to be the quirky Angie and not the “everything-is-perfectly-wonderful-and-normal-here-Angie.”)
My blogging, surprisingly, blesses a smattering of strangers out there in the world. After a 3 month break from blogging (caused initially by debilitating technological problems and the loss of ALL my pictures on my computer (wah!)), I began to feel awkward about how to restart el blogo. AGAIN. We’ve seen this before (sorry).
I got an email late last night from Jamie. I don’t know her, but she made my night. She said that her mom was never a homemaker and never taught her how to “make a home.” Her mother-in-law, whom Jamie had been living with for 5 YEARS (ack!) was a couch-lover and critic. She was a less-than-stellar example of a homemaker.
And now Jamie and her husband and son have moved out! Yay! While searching for tips on how to do the whole home-making THING, she found this little place on the web. “Seriously A Homemaker” sounds pretty serious… she probably thought she could learn a few things from me. (har, har, har…)
Silly girl. Then again…
“I found some blogs out there that were to the “T” spotless and these goals I just knew I couldn’t reach. Then today I found your blog and it made me so happy that I can now set real goals for myself and that it’s ok if I don’t get to them.” –Jamie
Last night I stood in my dark hallway, all the big and little Archibald’s sleeping around me, reading this email from her on my phone. I immediately tapped out a response email to her on my phone and thanked her for HELPING ME.
Then I climbed over the mountain of laundry between the bed and I and tried to put my super-sick self to bed. #fail.
But, look, Ma! I’m blogging again!
Thanks to you for reading again. How have you been?
Let’s do some stuff.
