Happy Birthday, Manchild

by Angie on March 18, 2011

military daddy
Tomorrow he turns 32
His eyes a slick shade of blue
Painted with freckles head to toe
Yet underneath a G.I. Joe

You’d think otherwise, at first glance
Always dressed in fancy pants
A collared shirt, sharp glasses, tie
He’d rather be diving in the sky

Work folks don’t know his crazy side
3 motorcycles, 2 ATVs, he doesn’t hide
Open the garage and out they spill
“Where’s the mountain, this is a HILL!”

He’ll make you laugh until you cry
And sometimes he doesn’t even try
Yes he does, it’s his favorite game
Such joy in mispronouncing your name

His love for S,L,H & C
Ridiculously real and plain to see
These kids won the Dad Lottery
In a heartbeat he’d take 23

Let’s talk about my cold feets
Seeking the back of his knees under sheets
He doesn’t recoil with shock and chill
But warms them selflessly and thinks no ill

I love the way he loves us today
Work, sweat, fun, faith, hope and play
Through 60 plus more years of life
I hope to be half as great a wife

Hey, Manchild: I love you, Happy Birthday, don’t change.

You’re awesome.

Angie, fun post! Do you always make rhymes in your head too? You seem to be a clone of me even though we have never met. Although my husband thinks I am absolutely crazy. He told me I couldn't paint our generic tan Utah clone door black. Which I am not happy about. Any advice? And, you had a picture of someones upstairs and they had lots of pictures on the walls. It was kind of a retro house, but it was the stairs and a wall on the right? Was it your blog I saw it on? I am trying to find it….. Julia

Paint the door! Benjamin Moore's Wood and Metal enamel paint is top notch
for the door. Use a fine sponge roller and a quality brush… go for it! The
front door makes a huge impact. I read an article in a real estate
newsletter this week that said the best bang for your buck home improvement
is in updating the front door. New garage door was second.

Abt the pic, go back to the "spring things" post and u'll see it. I found it
on houzz.com, but the pic on my blog sites the architect below.

Come over right now. Bring fat free calorie free ice cream.

That is awesome Angie!!! I love that picture with Sam and Logan on his back…you need to take a new one with Holly and Charlie…and a half grown Sam & Logan…let's see if Mr. G.I. Joe can lift all of THAT! (I'm sure he can…muscle man!)
